Here are some random shots we have taken over the past few weeks.
Below: Most of the streets in historical neighborhoods are marked with both street signs on posts and tiled in the sidewalk.

OnSite Relief volunteers worked with Cliff and Rusty from Cross Roads Missions
finishing up some foundations in an Uptown neighborhood of New Orleans.
Rebecca, an OnSite Relief volunteer from Connecticut, adopts a puppy from ARNO (Animal Rescue of New Orleans) to bring home with her. For information on how to adopt a pet from New Orleans please visit www.animalrescueneworleans.org
On Tuesday, February 12th OnSite volunteers helped Rusty and Cliff with Cross Roads Missions put together a foundation. A number of foundations had to be finished in preparation for a large group of Amish and Mennonites coming to frame houses. As those close to me would know, my beloved cat Squeakers passed away this September at the age of 15 1/2. I had spent over half of my life with her and we had gone through so much together. Well, we have been working on the Dixon’s house here in New Orleans and a stray cat, who reminds me of my Squeakers, seems to have adopted the family. Mrs. Dixon is holding off on naming the cat until she moves into the house this April and is able to keep her. I really enjoy the fact that every week I get to spend a little time with a cat who reminds me of such good times. I miss you Bubs!

Something that has become somewhat of a weekly occurrence is for our volunteers to spend 1 afternoon a week at ARNO (Animal Rescue of New Orleans). This particular visit our volunteer Rebecca had her mind set on adopting a puppy so the first 1/2 hour we helped her choose the perfect one to bring home.

I think she’s found one!

As many of you know, I (Genevieve) have a love for cats and so I spend my time with the kitties, which there are dozens of.

Some of our favorite canines are Fleur and Erica.

Emma poses with Fleur.

Rebecca has signed the adoption papers and names her new puppy Nola.

As the directors of Lean On Me cannot always be in New Orleans but constantly have ongoing projects OnSite Relief oversees some of their work and volunteers. One project that OnSite has helped along by supplying volunteer is with Valerie’s house in Gentilly. Scott, a retired contractor, has been generous enough to volunteer 1 month of his time but that’s not nearly enough to complete an entire house on your own! This is where OnSite stepped in to help out.
Below: Nick cuts a piece of sheet rock to his measurements.

Once you’re shown how to sheet rock it doesn’t take much to jump in and do it as some of our air force volunteers learnt. 3 of them had prior experience while the other 2 were first-timers.

Emma cuts a hole for an outlet.

Scott tacks up sheet rock for a ceiling.

Ned sheet rock rookie helps with a ceiling.

Matt masters the power screw gun.

Emma screws in the sheet rock every 8″ along the stud line.

Emma hammers in some protruding nails.

Ned, Shira and Gabe get ready to move some sheet rock up on the wall.

Emma tapes and muds some seams.

Scott, the volunteer contractor tiles the tub surround.

What a great tile job!
